Fitness: Nutrition (Clean Foods) for MMA

First I'd like to begin by saying that proper nutrition is THE MOST IMPORTANT part of any workout routine whether you're trying to add mass, cut fat or make strength gains, and is something every MMA practitioner, or athlete should practice. Not to mention good nutrition is also important for your overall health. So do not skip this post if you're planning to train. (I'm not saying you can't see results eating crappy while working hard, because nothing substitutes hard work. You will see much better results if you're eating right however.)
With that said in this post i will list foods that fitness buffs consider "clean" foods in which are very healthy and perfect for any type of workout routine.
Protein: Needed for muscle repair and growth (Recommended 1g-1.5g of protein for each pound of body weight.) Good Example Foods:
  1. chicken
  2. turkey
  3. red meat
  4. tuna
  5. peanut butter
  6. cottage cheese
  7. milk
  8. nuts
  9. egg whites
Whole Grains: High source of fiber, complex carbohydrates, and some protein. Important for digestion, and muscle repair and growth. Good Example Foods:
  1. brown rice
  2. oatmeal
  3. whole wheat bread
  4. whole wheat pasta
These two food groups are the foundation for any workout routine whether your trying to build lean mass or just gain mass in general(Which will be discussed in a later post as well as all thing about cutting and gaining weight.) However it is still very important to get in all of your fruits and vegetables, as they contain essential vitamins and nutrients. I also recommend supplementing your diet with a multivitamin and an omega 3 fatty acid pill, such as fish oil, as well as using a protein supplement, such as whey protein.( Supplements will also be discussed in more depth in a later post.) So go ahead and build your meal plan with these "clean" foods and reap the benefits.

  3. Hey do you have any good suggestions for another source of Omega 3? I can't take any kind of fish oil, I've tried them all but they give me heartburn. What's another rich source?

Great site by the way. Hope you'll pop by mine at Vampiredaze.com. I found you on blog catalogue. Nice.

  4. You can get omega 3's from many oils and food sources. As far as supplementing with Omega 3's you could try flax seed oil or krill oil which will also come in a pill form.

  5. Eat Good Fats

There are actually good fats out there, and you know what? They will actually help you lose weight. That's right, they will help you burn the bad fat from your belly. This is for sure one of the best diet tips and we have an article dedicated to good fats vs bad fats. The main point here is your diet should consist of a portion of these healthy fats. Stuff like olive oil, avocado, almonds and a ton of others will not make you fat. Eat them up! Eating fish oil is one of the best diet tips. Sometimes it's hard to get all this in your normal diet and supplements are great for this.

    Stay Away From Refined Sugars

Refined sugars are a killer, they are probably the fastest way to add pounds. The problem is they are called so many different things. It's not as simple as checking the label and looking for sugar. Its called dextrose, fructose, corn syrup, maltodextrin and a number of others.

One of the worst culprits (other than chocolate) is soda. This stuff is terrible for you. If you can substitute you're a couple pop a day habit, you will be well on your way!

    Water is Your Best Friend

Water is the lifeblood of the human body. More than 70% of your body is made up of water, and most of us don't drink enough of it. We are walking around mildly dehydrated, and that is a big problem because our metabolism and other bodily functions are negatively affected.

Water can also play another key role in dieting. If one of your major problems is overeating, then drinking a large glass of water before each meal will actually help you eat less and stick to a healthy amount of good foods. Try it for a week and you will be amazed how your body reacts!

These are our best diet tips. Remember the best ways to lose weight listed above. It is important to think exercise and dieting? Not just dieting alone.
